Room 1

Mrs Debbie Kiwi-Clinton

Te Mauri Ora - Room 1 has a total of 22 children working to perfection. We have many interests for example some of us like sports, art, maths, reading, music etc...but it usually takes time to complete these tasks. We all try to take pride in our work and classroom.

Most of us have already been out and about to events like touch tournament, surfing and swimming sports. We try getting involved in everything that is happening so we can get the most of our school years.

We try being a friendly caring class and try to be tidy, clean and bring a nice healthy lunch so we can have a good thinking mind.

Right now we are working on our tiriti (treaty) and our whakapapa (family tree). Te Reo is important to us so we work on our kaupapa and kupu everyday in class, we have waiata and kapa haka at syndicate assembly and karakia in the auditorium every morning.

Our goals are to play as a team, co-operate, improve our listening skills and learn new and interesting stuff.

On the 6th of March 2012 we had a volleyball game our teacher Whaea Debbie was the amazing person who coached us some of us didn’t even know how to play but we still participated to make our school look outstanding and it is outstanding.

Teacher Profile – Whaea Debbie Kiwi-Clinton

Funny, Ambitious, Caring, Sports Fanatic. These are only a few ways to describe Whaea Debbie Rangi Kiwi- Clinton. Being new at Whakatane Intermediate, Whaea Debbie is already rubbing off on us. Her kind, passionate words of advice go a long way and she puts the well-being of her students in front of herself as she also volunteers her lunch time coaching and managing four of our wonderful basketball teams. (Boys and girls.)

Whilst being a teacher, Whaea Debbie LOVES sport! Like warming down after work with a nice run around the block, or even just a casual stroll down the Whakatane River- Bank. She couldn’t have imagined anything better when she got the offer to come from Hastings Primary, to Whakatane Intermediate. Her new job would include being in charge of the Gymnasium and sport’s equipment as well as being a teacher. Te Mauri Ora (Rm 1) always look for forward to the mornings, as Whaea teaches us skills about various sport topics. Such as, Badminton, Cricket and Basketball being her favourite. Along with sports have come many great successes, like one of Whaea Debbie’s favourite motto’s ‘JUST DO IT, NIKE’.

During her younger years at school, Whaea Debbie loved to coach her peers and was a very successful student in class. One of her favourite subjects was Mathematics, because it involved a lot of thinking and it was always a good challenge for Whaea. Her teacher was kind, wonderful and dedicated most of their time to ensure Whaea and her peer’s got the best education out of their schooling years. Being inspired Whaea Debbie knew she wanted to become a teacher, when she got older.

So from many different schools, many different towns, Whaea Debbie is now a part of our big whanau Syndicate A, and our bigger whanau, Whakatane Intermediate.
