2011 Room 19 Bushaven Camp

Hannah’s Journal

Last Tuesday morning we loaded all our gear into trailers and car boots, then we bounced to Pak’ n Save and bought all the food that we planned on our menu to take to Bushaven. Then we headed on our way to the beautiful campsite.

We drove past paddocks, beaches, swamps and hills then we finally we found the actual track to the camp. We drove through streams and beside a cliff. It was fun but nerve racking because there were lots of slips and gravel.

We stumbled out of the car with our sleeping legs and ran to our favourite spot to set up our tents. The parents helped us set up, find all our gear and move it in. After that we helped others.

In the afternoon it was blistering hot so we all dived in for our first splash in the river. It was cold, but refreshing and made my whole body feel free and pure, it is the most wonderful amazing place. We had tube races and played diving games for about an hour.

Soon after that we had our delicious Spaghetti Bolognese made by Sam for tea.

 Wednesday

We woke up on this chilly morning and packed our lunch, layers, togs and towels for our 2 hour hike. On the way we sang songs, made up crazy languages and played fun games. Also we passed bridges, streams and fallen over tree trunks all the way to the freezing water hole. I was so sore with blisters that I had to walk bare feet half the way. The water was so icy cold that I was numb. Johanna swam to the other side of the river and chopped up our sweet pineapple. When we came back we just had a swim and games which was relaxing after the walk. Later that night we went eeling. I caught the first eel and Phillip.N caught the second. Next we had to gut them and smoke them, it was really really gross but they tasted delicious!

Thursday

On this day we did quite a lot. We had 2 freezing swims, lots of free time and the Yr 7 girl’s game which was mini raft making. We had half an hour to collect their materials and build it, we were all provided with 5 rubber bands per team “3 2 1 GO!!!!!!!!” screamed Rebecca. And off they went. Of course my team won but it was a close race. After that we all participated in orienteering. At first we were a complete mess but then we started from the beginning and worked our way through and ended up winning both races!

That night we had a little mission to cook our dinner on a fire. My food group and I chopped, crushed, and peeled our food into a delicious noodle soup. Also that night a few people including, me sneaked out again for the new and improved Burma trail. It was fun but had slips all the way up and down. It was scary because Sam’s dad was making animal sounds up the bush and he leaned against a tree and it fell on me and I thought it was a wild pig because I saw tracks down the bottom of the hill!

Friday

Sadly our camp was nearly over so we had to complete the boring task of packing down our tents, others tents and moving our gear back into trailers and car boots. Some unlucky Year 7’s had to clean the toilets! After that we gathered all our left over food and made toasted sandwiches and desserts. It was charming to have my stomach full and be heading home. Finally after about an hour we were all back at school with our gear scattered everywhere. “Wow it feels great to be back at school” we all say sitting on the deck. It felt like our whole camp went over in a click, which is really sad because it is my last one for Intermediate. That was probably the last time I will ever go there so I hope people still come to enjoy the water, hikes, views and experience like I did.

In Room 19 we do interesting homework that includes wacky questions

How I found the laptops on the school roof.

Reason 1. The little Bebo’s jumped out of the speakers and Twittered to each other. They then Yahoo’d to the top of the classroom carrying the laptops on their backs. They looked around with their Google eyes and went Wiki! They heard the world was going to end so they jumped back into the laptops and emailed their space ship to come and collect them and their prized possession, the laptops.

Luckily for us they couldn’t take our much-needed laptops because there wasn’t enough room for all the extra mega bites. They left without them and traveled back to their planet. The caretaker grabbed his ladder and climbed up the side of the room. The children of room 19 went to the fire station and asked for one of the trampoline things they use to save people from buildings. They ran back to school and caught all the laptops and lead them to safety.

Supporting Reasons: I think it is true because it was all over the news and personally, I was there and so were you and of course the rest of room 19!
