Teacher Profile – Rebecca Parson
Rebecca Louise Parsons, known as Miss Parsons to Whakatane Intermediate School pupils, is the wonderful teacher of Room 22.
Miss Parsons has had experience teaching at various schools but W.I.S is definitely her favourite! Though she did enjoy teaching preschoolers. She has taught year 0-1, 5-6 and 7-8.
She has always wanted to be a teacher since a young age. “I loved my schooling. I would never miss a day. I was also very lucky to have such inspirational teachers.” Said Miss Parsons. She loves seeing children achieve in their learning.
If Miss Parsons had a different job it would probably be in business management, although she can’t imagine not being a teacher!
She enjoys teaching all aspects of literacy and language - reading, writing etc.
In her free time she enjoys spending time with her three amazing daughters and partner.
To Miss Parsons the most difficult aspect of teaching is finding time to complete everything! Long days and late nights are a common occurrence for her. Teaching is definitely not a 9-3 job! Other than time, teaching children is fantastic. The children in Room 22 are wonderful!
“She gives a lot of homework but she is kind and caring and helps anyone and everyone with their work.” Megan
“Miss Parsons is an excellent teacher who supports and appreciates everyone and their opinions.” Emma
“Miss Parsons is really pushy but that’s great because she pushes us to achieve great things.” Izabell

Room 6 & 10 Camp Waitomo 2011
It was an ordinary Tuesday morning and we had just got out of morning assembly. I couldn’t wait, today we were leaving for our awesome camp -Waitomo.
We were all sorted into our car groups and so we headed off. Our first stop was Rotorua where we ate our morning tea. After we had a break we were off again to Otorohanga Kiwi house where we stopped and had lunch. Once we had finished lunch we went in groups to watch a movie about kiwis and how we can help protect them.
Then we were off again to our final destination Toki Kapu Marae. we finally reached the marae where we were welcomed on by a powhiri from our wonderful hosts Matua Huia and Matua Paki.
After the powhiri the boys went and unpacked their gear in the Kohanga and the girls in the Wharenui.
The next day was awesome we were doing a mini quest and the Huhunui cave. We got absolutely saturated and muddy, but the cave was outstanding! The formations looked really soft, but we all knew they weren’t.
For the mini quest we had to follow clues to find a treasure chest. One of the most challenging parts was when we had to throw large inflated tyres over a pole about five meters tall! For that challenge we had to use a lot of team work.
Day three was when we became the tourists and entered the glowworm cave. It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen! The boat ride was about 30 minutes long.
The last day arrived and it was time to leave back for Whakatane. We stopped for lunch at Rotoma, we played a final game of scrag had a swim then got back in our cars for the ride home.
