Whakatane Intermediate vs St Josephs
On Wednesday the 16th of March, the Whakatane Intermediate Cricket Team was under lot of pressure, it was the second game of a cricket series versus St Joseph School. The first game was won by Whakatane Intermediate, so in order to win the cup we needed to win today’s match. St Joseph’s won the toss and elected to field. Whakatane came into the game with a strong batting order. We thought we had a chance of setting a good total although we did not do very well. All out for 47, not a very high total! After lunch we came out on to the field not very confident knowing defending a total of 47 would be difficult.
To our surprise St Joseph’s came up short all out 43. The last wicket was extraordinary because it was taken on the last ball of the game. The man of the match in my opinion would go to James of Whakatane Intermediate as he played a big role in the bowling against St Joseph’s, bowling lots of maiden overs (overs with no runs in them) which help a lot in 20/20 cricket. We were over joyed when we won the cup for the first time ever.
