Food technology

Food is a vital and exciting subject and Year 7/8 students learn about the Food Pyramid, healthy food, nutrients, basic food preparation/plating & hygiene skills. What students put into their bodies helps to determine the type of person they become and their success rate at school and b eyond. They learn that teenagers need a high energy diet for the bodily demands of being a young adolescent. An emphasis on vegetables, fruit, whole grains, dairy and low fat meat products is encouraged. Students are advised to help cook at home.

We also have our own Kitchen Herb Garden at school!

The Maggi Kitchen Showdown is a competition open to all Intermediates in New Zealand. Last year we were one of the 30 out of 200 Intermediate Schools that qualified to compete up in Auckland.

There are many talented kids at this school but only four of us were lucky enough to be selected to be part of the team.

The challenge involves teams having to design their own dinner meal which has to include 2 Maggi products.

The dinner meal is prepared for 2 Adults and 2 children and this year we are doing a chicken with ginger glaze.

The fabulous chefs for the Maggi Kitchen Showdown are Johanna von Sicard, Luke Hanretti, Hannah Bakker and Brock Sciascia. We also have support from local chef John Lee and our Food Technology Teacher Mrs. Marilyn Cure.

Meal - Chicken with Ginger Glaze

This is made from shredded carrot, mashed baby peas, roast potatoes with herb flavouring and various pieces of the chicken flavoured and pan cooked then rested in the oven and on top, the divine ginger glaze.
