Facilities

Whakatāne Intermediate School was first established in September 1968. It is built on the site backing on to Awatapu Lagoon and over the past 10 years has undergone significant changes to its buildings and the facilities it offers. The school has 24 classrooms (including a special needs unit), a technology block, gymnasium, multicultural room, auditorium, office block, and library. The school groups are extensive and we have multiple court areas, a confidence course, and full soccer and rugby fields.

Our Gymnasium

Gymnasium

In 2008 the Gymnasium was built on the field at the rear of the school (entrance from Fraser Street). This facility is used by students and staff during the day and is also available for hire in the evenings and weekends by the public.

The gymnasium has a full basketball court, complete with scoreboard, access to a mezzanine with seating for approx. 200 people and there are full changing and shower facilities for teams.

For all enquires regarding hire of gymnasium contact the school office.

Multicultural Room

Adjoining the gymnasium is the multicultural room and kitchen facility. This room is used by the school for syndicate assemblies, sitting tests and as a practice space for cultural activities. The room comes complete with tables and chairs and attached is a full kitchen facility.

The multicultural room is also available for hire by the public, all enquires should contact the school office.
