Literacy Quiz

On the 6 of May 2011, nine eager and talented students travelled to Tauranga to take part in the Kids’ Literary Quiz Regional play off. Paige McLauchlan, Kaleb Batenburg–Jones, J.T Barr, Soren and Olen Sandeno, Marshall Black, Keegan Armstrong and Vicky Rogers have been working for a number of weeks polishing up their book knowledge and had a successful evening at Tauranga Intermediate. One team came home with a book each as winners of a section, while Keegan and his Dad both won books by answering spot questions! A lot of fun and was had by all!

Samuel Vivian joined us in the audience and plans to work towards being in the 2012 team – he found it very hard to sit and listen when he knew so many of the answers! The Kids Lit Quiz is now worldwide and the local winners – Awakeri School - will attend the NZ finals in Wellington with the World Finals being held later in the year in Hamilton. This is an indication of the high standard set by quizmaster Wayne Mills from Auckland University. We are very proud of our teams who were placed 5th Equal and 8th out of 24 teams. Our next challenge will be against Gisborne later this term.

The kids regional lit quiz is open to year 6,7 and 8 children in the Bay of Plenty.
