Top School 2011

What an awesome experience! On the 20th of March a team of ten students went to represent Whakatane Intermediate in the annual Awakeri Top School event.

The Top School event is held every year by Awakeri School as their major fundraising event. Schools in the region compete against each other in a variety of challenges to win the Top School Shield. This competition has been going for 26 years and is highly regarded.

We trained each lunch time for 7 weeks getting our fitness levels up and practicing the skills for each event. We would run for 10 minutes and then separate into our groups and practice the different events we were in.

We all arrived ready to win the shield. Our first event was the magic carpet, we tried our best but unfortunately did not achieve the result we wanted. We competed very well and our best event was the horizontal bungy where we came first equal.

Our team came third in the Year 7 and 8 section. Thank you to our coaches Miss Parsons and Miss Copeland for all the hard work they have put in.
